When I purchased 4058 last year, there was another 6.3 in the yard that had been sitting going on 20 years. Got a call yesterday to 'come and get it'. Sunday we'll go down and drag it home. Do not know the vin number but recall that the central California sun had taken its toll. The car is light blue.

I would think light blue would be a fairly rare color for a 6.3? 304 Horizontblau?

Probably just faded from a darker blue. I'm guessing 350 |

I can't get my head around posting pictures either Micheal, it hinders most members participation and limits contributions to the group.

The picture you want to upload has to be 180 KB maximum ... The best is to reduce the picture(s) to around 800x600 pixels. Store those resized pictures in .jpg format on your harddisk ( for example in a temporary map ) ...
Then you enter the paperclip below the tekstblock in your answer / posting and specify the picture you want to have uploaded.
If the picture is recieved okee a message will tell you so and you can see the codes on the bottom of your posting ..... |

Burned some mid-night oil last night with the car on the rack --oiled the cylinders, cleaned the fuel pump impeller & exersized the armature; replaced the fuel hoses -fuel tank appears usable. Tonight after hours I will replace the brake hoses & exersize the calipers. In the past I have used diesel to clean/flush cooling systems after oil has ventured into the radiator so I think I may install a gallon of diesel into the radiator to clean the radiator core, passages, heater core and as an added benefit, it may soften the seals of the water pump. I'm still on the fence regarding the diesel but can't see how it would hurt for the initial warm-up. I will also fill the fuel filter canister with ATF for the initial fuel injection pump prime then install the filter. I have filled the fuel pump with ATF in a hope that the seals for the electrical studs will soften so they don't leak/spray fuel. It appears the fuel pump was new when the car was parked -although the impeller base seal was hard as a rock. The licensed plates indicate the car was last on the road in 1997.

Awesome, Michael! I like that it still has the original hubcaps. I don't know why, but I think these cars look so much more refined with them but will admit I love having 15" bundts on mine. I can't wait to see how this one progresses.

Thanks for the info. MB had some interesting colors in the 60's and 70's, to say the least. I'd still like to have a red 6.3.

Michael, this really looks to be a great find for you. Classic California, rust-free candidate for restoration.
As for the color, I have always liked the darker colors as it really highlights all that magnificent chrome trim.

MPM if ever you feel like rescuing a REAL rough 6.3, I know of one here in Vancouver BC. Title apparently missing though, so the juice might not be worth the squeeze. PM me if you would like details.
Cheers

The Gods are on my side.
During lunch we put the plugs back in after flushing the fuel system and engine lubrication. With a pre-prime of the cold start valves & a quart of ATF with 3 gallons of gas, the engine lit off on all eight cylinders immediately, holds a 180f, pegs the oil gauge, and is very smooth and quiet. As a bonus, the current air bags lifted the car; it did sink down after an hour --but still -it raised all by itself -remarkable.
Currently, the water pump does not leak and the thermostat is working (Diesel!)
Tonight I'll get the brakes alive and plan to drive it off the rack
-the goal is to have a list of what the car needs then store it in the basement until its time comes.

I would never have thought of putting diesel in a radiator .. Just quiet question, how do you get of it after you drain the coolant system ? |
