Having just almost completed the restoration of a 1959 W189 Adenauer, it's now time to plan for the next challenge! The only 6.9 in Kenya needs a lot of TLC. On the plus side it has a very sound and straight body and a lovely blue velours interior. On the minus side it has engine issues, a gearbox that chewed reverse gear and its hydropneumatic suspension has been crudely ripped out and replaced by springs. Therefore I am looking for a terminally rusty or accident damaged donor car, it must be in good mechanical condition to provide everything we require for the rebuild!

Thank you,

J-P

Look on ebay right now, here is a parts car. There are tons of 6.9's for sale in the US, look on craigslist for example. Most of them are in OK shape but also lots of parts cars:

Might be time to state the budget for this caper. Not sure if OP is up to speed on parts car prices in US? Herewith my current assessment, I am sure other members will chime in:
Parts car, rusted to hell, not running at all: $1-2K USD
Running but rough: 5K
Running and shifting nice, suspension/interior needs work, cosmetics so-so: 5-10K
All functional, lower miles, no issues, paint maybe faded but body straight: 15-20K
Very nice overall, very low miles: 20-30K
Garage queen, one owner, ultra low miles: 50K+
Delivery miles: 100K+

Thank you all for your input.

Daniel, stating budget is very helpful, what I need is a car with all good mechanicals including suspension, bodyshell / paint / cosmetics and interior condition irrelevant. 5 to 10k would be fine. A car which has become too rusty for restoration to make financial sense, or an accident car would fit the bill.

Rumb, thank you but I want to get a donor car to get all I need from one source.

I have a lead for you out of Vancouver area here in Canada if you like. But as far as I know the suspension needs to be looked at. I have seen the car and overall not bad, and appears like previous owners threw parts at the hydro suspension, as is often the case, thus a lot of the suspension parts have very low miles on them. Could be a simple fix like fluid and filter/flush/rebuilt pump, or more involved. Might be too big of a risk for you, but if interested I can pass on the guy's details to you. Not sure if he will ship to Kenya, but we have a port right here so that part at least is relatively easy.
Perhaps East Coast USA will be best for shipping to Africa. i also have a contact in PA in the US, not sure if he has 6.9's kicking around but he shipped a car to Germany not too long ago, so he might be more keen.
Where there is a will there is a way

Daniel,

Thank you! Yes please let me have the contact. I am not scared of the suspension, I have been raised with hydropneumatic Citroens! For the Adenauer restoration I bought a rolling chassis and Buds in Douglasville dismantled and crated for us, and the crates were shipped from there. Only thing would be importing from Vancouver to the US, but we can look into that. Please ask your PA contact too.

and I need to reduce the size of the herd. I just picked up a 280sel 4.5 and 230ce. I've promised my wife that I would do something about those half dozen 6.9s in the garage.
