Perhaps some of us don't choose to engage in "Social Media." I don't.

I'm not on Facebook and prefer the forum, even with other clubs I'm a member of that offer both.

It doesn't seem that the majority of the replies here are much in favor of having a Facebook site in addition to this one. Since it does appear that interest is waning in the Forum (e.g., the "club members" section hasn't had a posting since October), it would seem that we need to focus and encourage use of this site.

On the FB page there is an About page that explains the org and this website. I suggest the FB owner create "sticky" post that directs them over here. Most people dont bother looking for things.

My 2c, both are needed to attract the widest audience.

7 votes here for no FB, 550 for FB over there........... that says it all.

Facebook has its place, i am a facebook member and i like the fact that it is so user friendly and reaches a larger audience, i can assure you those who look down on it does not realize its potential, once you start using it , you will get hooked.

I do have a face book account -mostly credited to the insistence of my son and daughter (can't say I actually use it(social media is not going to go away no matter how much we dig in)). I am in the middle here as I see relevance on both sides of the issue.

Nope, you guys are really poor at allowing new members to join. You really need to fix that.

Are you a paying member or just a forum user?

If you're a paying member, how about volunteering to help out?

There are lots of changes in the pipe but progress is slow because only one person is involved. I'm sure that Chris would welcome the help. I certainly could have used it. While I got plenty of feedback from people like you while i was running the site, nobody volunteered.

It takes a little more effort to run this website than sitting in your armchair and complaining. If you think that you could do better, please roll your sleeves up. I'm sure that your assistance would be welcome.

With best regards

Al

Guys, rather than playing the blame game, can we not try and focus on a solution here? I have 0 technical skills when it comes to website design and such, so I cannot help in this regard. Granted, I am not a paying member, so I have no grounds to complain I guess...But then again, I do not see throwing money at the problem at this point making much of a difference.

Is there not perhaps an option to merge with the W116 board somehow? As far as I know it is run by guys in Australia. They charge no fees for running the show, and that site is going gangbusters so they must be doing something right. Not saying this site is not, but if it makes sense to tap into their resource, why not? Maybe the guys have more time on their hands Down Under

Just a thought.

Thanks for your response. I don't really have a dog in this fight anymore so my opinion does not represent the board or the person running the website. I just find it interesting that the most vocal complainers are those that don't contribute.

Nothing personal Daniel, but "Can't we come together and fix it, but not me because I don't know anything about websites" is also something I heard often. Unfortunately it does not help.

It's been years since I've been active on the W116.org forum, I don't know who runs it now and their circumstances. From my perspective, running a club and running a forum are two different things.

WRT forum; we need volunteers so that we don't over burden one person, or paying members so that we can hire somebody else to do it.

I've been a paying member since 2004 and a volunteer from 2007-2017.

If you're not happy with the way things are, then join the club, get on the board and make a difference. Ideas are not much help if there is nobody to execute.

If volunteering is not for you, your financial contribution by joining will help pay for professional assistance.

With best regards

Al
